This news captured worldwide media and scientific interest, when it was published in journal Biology Letters. India’s 1st mission to the Moon: Chandrayaan-1 , was effectively launched the morning of October 22 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) in Sriharikota, India. The science fair is meant to challenge the subsequent generation of young scientists, inventors, and innovators from around the globe.
Now with Chandrayaan-1 which is ISRO’s initial mission beyond Earth orbit, marks the starting of a new era of collaboration among ESA and ISRO in space science. The expense of this project is about $1.64 million which will be funded by Engineering and Physical Science Analysis Council (EPSRC) and Defence Science and Technologies Laboratory (DSTL). It can be formulated in different techniques, but at its core is the demand that science be granted a position of absolute authority and dominance vis-a’-vis all other forms of human realizing.
Given that science is a historically evolving undertaking, the manner of its development is a question of fantastic import. Historians of science have shown that this is undoubtedly not the way science always proceeds. Whereas there are periods of cumulative growth, science also experiences revolutions, in which fundamental assumptions about the nature of reality previously deemed unquestionable undergo drastic change. History shows that not just these ideologists of science but scientists themselves, and science-based practitioners, at times show this attitude, with undesirable consequences, as the following examples show.
But no such attitude characterizes the supporters of dogmatic scientism, who appear to be invariably confident that what science prescribes at a particular point in time is, if not the absolute truth, at least the only acceptable view of reality. These examples – and numerous far more could be found – reveal a single of the significantly less savory elements of the scientific community’s behavior when simple assumptions are challenged by evidence that can not be accommodated inside the existing horizon of scientific understanding. In this way a scientific psychology was constructed which avoided all the troubles associated with the study of mental events.
In its ‘lite’ version it propose that science be regarded as the optimal technique of acquiring information about the world, to be employed whenever achievable. The fact that science at occasions undergoes drastic changes in its basic assumptions about reality and as a result about what facts are scientifically possible constitutes some thing of an embarasment for this view.
